For more than a decade, the Environmental Literacy Council has been dedicated to helping teachers, students, policymakers, and the public find cross-disciplinary resources on the environment. Our award-winning website, Enviroliteracy.org, offers over 1000 pages of information on environmental topics along with professional development modules, a place for teachers to exchange activities, and reviews of the environmental science content in classroom materials. We believe that environmental issues involve many dimensions — scientific, economic, aesthetic, and ethical. The Council works with scientists and educators to make sure our online resources are scientifically accurate, easily accessible, and convey the deep complexity of environmental decision-making. For each topic in our virtual library, essays clearly explain the issue, its historical context and scope, current scientific knowledge, proposed solutions, and the risks and tradeoffs involved. An annotated list of related data, laws, competing viewpoints, and classroom resources accompany each essay. We have a wealth of information for teachers and students looking to expand their in-class discussions, understand the science behind the news, and build their environmental literacy. Please check us out at www.enviroliteracy.org

Our sister site ScienceTextCentral.org offers textbook reviews, the opportunity for teachers to submit their own book reviews, and information and news about K-12 science textbooks and science teaching.

Features
The Council works with scientists and educators to make sure our online resources are scientifically accurate, easily accessible, and convey the deep complexity of environmental decision-making. Our resources are not about how to persuade students one way or the other with regard to the political issues, rather, they are designed as a resource to help teachers foster the scientific knowledge and critical ways of thinking that students will need as they grow to be responsible adults.

Specific Locations Served
National, but please see our state resource pages which link to state-specific resources, parks, museums, government agencies, and related natural resource organizations offering information on your local environment.
