Center for Learning and Investigation in Mountain Backcountry Ecosystems

Welcome to CLIMBE at Montreat College!

CLIMBE is an environmental training and research center at Montreat College for high school students who have an interest in environmental science and who wish to work outside of the traditional science laboratory. CLIMBE offers a variety of educational opportunities including:

  • Climate Awareness Program
  • Water Quality Exploration
  • Advanced CLIMBE Program

Each week-long program is offered during the Summer and includes hands-on learning activities, data collection/analysis, collaboration with Ph.D. scientists, and hiking/camping near Mount Mitchell State Park. Ultimately, students will become "informed and literate advocates" for climate- and water-related environmental issues.
